Amitabh Bachchan came out
as the biggest superstar in the 1970s-1980s. However, even after attaining such
startling greats, he couldn't sustain the same star power in the 1990s. So much
so, that he quit acting and didn't come out with a release for 5 years.
Insaniyat was his last release in 1994.
Fighting against the destiny and staying true to
his passion for acting, Amitabh Bachchan swung back in action in 2000.
His lifeline was television quiz show Kaun Banega
Crorepati. This also opened Bollywood’s gate for him yet again. He returned,
albeit not as the main romantic lead. His career took a complete U-turn and he
once again grew to attain peak of stardom.

Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001)

The character of Yashwardhan Raichand couldn't have been portrayed by anyone other than Big B. Amitabh Bachchan portrayed the character of a rich stoic father who didn’t approve of his son falling in love with a girl below his social status. Big B pulled it off with much required elegance and class.
Baghban (2003)

Based on a popular novel, this movie gave the younger generation something to ponder over - When our parents can take care of us in our childhood days, why can't we take care of them in their old age? Amitabh as the loving father, Raj Malhotra, was unmatchable. Amitabh re-united with Hema Malini on-screen after a long time in this film.
Black (2005)

Amitabh rates this film higher than all the films in his career, and it is worthy of that. Big B's portrayal of Debraj Sahai, a mentor to a deaf dumb and blind girl who helps her to clear the graduation exam, was stupendous.

He had played a father a before, but this was strikingly different. Big B as a cancer patient Ishwarchand Thakur is the most living father ever. However, in order to teach his vagabond son some social responsibility, he throws him out of his house.
Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

Father-son duo-Amitabh and Abhishek came together on-screen for the first time in this film. Big B played the role of a funny DCP Dashrath Singh, who is out on the prowl to catch the two local thugs in Uttar Pradesh played by Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did an item song Kajra Re with Big B and Abhishek in this film.

Ram Gopal Varma paid tribute to the Hollywood blockbuster The Godfather via this film. And who better than Amitabh to play the titular role! Big B as Subhash Nagre was the epitome of being eerily criminal, at the same time having a Robin Hood type soft corner for the poor and destitute.

Amitabh plays a 12-year old son to his real life son, Abhishek --- a feat that no other actor has ever managed to do across the globe. The nuances in the character of a little boy, Auro, suffering from Progeria was brought to life fantastically by Senior Bachchan.

Firstly, Big B looked super handsome as a lawyer even at the age of 73. To top it, this was one of his most socially relevant films of this year. Amitabh as Deepak Sehgal managed to bring justice to three Delhi girls who were falsely accused in a molestation case.
